Asiga Composer

Asiga Composer

Asiga Composer prepares builds for Asiga 3D printers. It identifies dental parts automatically, orients and supports them, and gives access to 600+ material profiles. Asiga provides it free to its printer customers on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Shareware (conditionally free)Latest version: 2.1.0Free for Asiga printer owners

Asiga Composer is the build-preparation software for Asiga 3D printers, which are used in dental labs and clinics. It loads STL, PLY or SLC files, orients and supports the parts, and sends the job to an Asiga printer on your network. Asiga describes it as an automatic STL and SLC support and build-preparation package, not a CAD program, so it does not edit the geometry of your design. People searching for “Asiga Composer download” are usually new Asiga owners setting up their first printer.

Composer is shareware (conditionally free). Asiga provides it at no cost to its printer customers, with unlimited installations and all future updates. You download it through your Asiga customer account, and it only drives Asiga printers. It is not a general slicer for other brands.

What it does

  • Automatic object identification: Composer detects the type of part and orients it for print time and quality. Asiga says this automation is currently for dental parts only.
  • Automatic supports placed only where the geometry needs them. Lattice supports wrap around the part and avoid its fine details.
  • Direct access to the Asiga material library of more than 600 materials, so you can download print settings for your chosen resin.
  • “Rotate Facet Downwards” snaps a selected surface to the platform in one click.
  • Multi-stacking uses the full Z height for overnight builds. Multi-range changes layer thickness, or even the material, at different heights of the build.
  • Automatic geometry repair: mesh repair, hole filling and Boolean feature fixes.
  • Advanced control of motion, cure times, LED intensity and image optimisation, plus live status of all Asiga printers on your network.
  • Reads STL, PLY, SLC and Asiga’s compressed STM format. The free Asiga Stomp tool makes STM files.

How dental teams use it

Set up dental models

Asiga’s “Part setup for Dentistry” guide recommends these settings:

  • Crown and bridge, implant, RPD and denture models: 50 µm layers, horizontal orientation.
  • Diagnostic wax-up and study models: 100 µm, horizontal or vertical.
  • Thermoforming models: 100–150 µm, horizontal or vertical.
  1. Import the model STL from your CAD or model software, for example 3Shape Unite or Medit Link.
  2. Choose the material, for example DentaMODEL, or DentaFORM or DentaSTUDY for thermoforming. Let Composer identify and orient the part, then adjust it to the guide above if needed.
  3. If you hollow a model, put drain holes at the base. Without them you get the “suction cup” effect. Asiga notes that solid models can be quicker to clean.
  4. Generate supports and send the build to the printer.

Print appliances

The same guide covers splints, denture bases and teeth, All-on-X, custom trays, surgical guides, try-in dentures, indirect bonding trays and gingiva. Each uses the matching Asiga Denta material, such as DentaGUIDE, DentaBASE, DentaTOOTH, DentaTRAY or DentaIBT. Follow the material’s instructions for layer thickness, orientation and post-curing.

Run overnight production

Use multi-stacking to fill the build height with a second layer of parts before you leave. Composer’s live status view shows which printers are free, printing, stopped with an error or finished.

Install and first run

  1. Sign in to your Asiga customer account and download the installer for your operating system.
  2. Run the installer and follow the prompts, then open Composer from the desktop icon.
  3. Composer detects Asiga printers on your local network automatically. Select one with a single click.
  4. Import the material profiles you need from the Asiga material library.

Asiga’s product page lists these requirements: a CPU with 4 threads at 3.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, graphics with 64 MB and OpenGL 2.0 or later, and a three-button mouse with a scroll wheel (or a trackpad). You can set keyboard shortcuts to match your CAD program, and choose a light or dark theme.

Limitations

  • It only works with Asiga printers, and the download is for Asiga customers.
  • It is not a CAD program and will not modify STL geometry beyond automatic repair.
  • Automatic object identification currently covers dental parts only.
  • Asiga does not publish a public version history, so it is hard to confirm which build is current.

Asiga Composer vs alternatives

Formlabs PreForm is the equivalent for Formlabs printers. It is free for anyone to download and has a Dental Workspace with Scan to Model, but it works only with Formlabs resins and printers. For desktop LCD printers from other brands, CHITUBOX, with its paid Dental mode, and Lychee Slicer are the usual choices. Composer’s strengths are its dental auto-orientation, its open material library and production features such as multi-stacking.

FAQ

Where do I get the Asiga Composer download?

Asiga customers download Composer from their Asiga account. The Composer page on asiga.com and the support centre explain the installation.

Is Asiga Composer free?

Yes, for Asiga printer customers. Asiga provides it at no charge, with unlimited installations and future updates included.

What changed in Composer 2.0 and 2.1?

Composer 2.0 brought a new, simpler interface. Composer 2.1.0 added automatic object identification and orientation (for dental parts) and multi-thread processing for faster job transfer.

Is there an Asiga Composer user manual?

Yes. The Asiga Customer Support Centre has a Composer user manual, installation steps and a “Part setup for Dentistry” guide.

Does Asiga Composer run on Mac and Linux?

Asiga lists Windows, macOS and Linux in Composer’s system requirements.

Can I use Composer with a non-Asiga printer?
