OnyxCeph³ from Image Instruments is orthodontic 2D/3D imaging software for cephalometric analysis, segmentation, setups, aligners and bonding trays. Commercial Windows software; an unactivated install runs in a limited trial mode.
Autodesk Netfabb
Autodesk Netfabb prepares 3D printing builds: STL repair, part packing, supports, slicing and metal build simulation. Dental labs use it for industrial resin and metal printers. Commercial software with a free Netfabb Premium trial for Windows.
UltiMaker Cura
UltiMaker Cura is a free, open-source slicer for filament (FDM) 3D printers on Windows, macOS and Linux. Dental teams use it for study models, teaching models and lab fixtures. It has no dental features and does not slice for resin printers.
Materialise Magics
Materialise Magics is commercial data and build preparation software for 3D printing. Its Dental Module automates labelling, nesting and supports for dental labs. Businesses can request a free trial from Materialise; there is no open public installer.
3Shape Dental System
3Shape Dental System is commercial CAD software for dental labs: crowns, bridges, dentures and implant restorations from digital scans. It is sold through 3Shape’s partner network, with a demo on request. There is no free public installer.
OrthoModel
OrthoModel is free software from Orthomodel Inc. (Istanbul) for archiving digital orthodontic study models with photos, X-rays and notes, and for measuring tooth widths and arch lengths in 3D. It works with the developer’s model-digitising service.
Medit Link
Medit Link is Medit’s free platform for clinics and labs using Medit scanners. It manages patients, cases and lab orders, runs scanning, and installs apps such as Model Builder for printable models. Extra cloud storage and some apps are paid.
DentalShaper for Rhino
DentalShaper is a dental CAD plug-in for Rhino 4 on Windows from CIMsystem, used by labs to import scanner and CAD files, add implant interfaces, build crowns and export STL for milling. Shareware (conditionally free); legacy product with no verified Lite edition.
exocad exoplan
exoplan is exocad’s implant planning and surgical guide design software for labs and clinics. It is commercial medical device software sold through authorised resellers; trial and student licences are available on request. Windows only.
exocad webview
exocad webview is the free official 3D viewer from exocad for STL, OBJ, PLY and DentalCAD exports. It runs in the browser and as a free app for Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android. DentalCAD itself is commercial software and is not included.
3Shape Communicate
3Shape Communicate is 3Shape’s free online portal and mobile app for sharing scans, designs and orders between clinics and labs. You sign in with a free 3Shape Account in any browser. TRIOS users on Unite 24.1 and newer use Unite Cloud instead.
Dental Clinic Management for Odoo (Cybrosys)
Dental Clinic Management by Cybrosys is a free, open-source (AGPL-3) Odoo module for dental clinics: doctors and time slots, patient records, appointments, prescriptions with invoicing and a patient portal. Available for Odoo 15.0-19.0, Community and Enterprise.
Dentisys (GitHub project)
Dentisys is a small Spanish-language dental clinic management web app on GitHub: Java Spring Boot back end with PostgreSQL and a Vue 3 front end. No releases, no licence and no activity since July 2025. A code example for developers and students, not a product for clinics.
ArchForm
ArchForm is clear aligner design software for in-office aligners, indirect bonding and direct-print aligners. The Windows and Mac desktop app comes with a free Dashboard account; exporting models uses paid credits. Shareware (conditionally free).
ClinCheck Pro
ClinCheck Pro is Align Technology’s cloud-based software for reviewing, modifying and approving Invisalign treatment plans. It runs in the browser on PC, Mac or iPad and is included for Invisalign-trained providers; it is not sold separately.
PrusaSlicer
PrusaSlicer is Prusa Research’s free, open-source slicer for filament and resin printers. Its SLA mode for the Original Prusa SL1/SL1S adds supports, a pad, hollowing and drain holes. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux (Flathub).
SelfCAD
SelfCAD is a general 3D modelling tool for the browser, Windows and Mac, with mesh repair, Boolean tools and an STL slicer. It has no dental module but is handy for simple STL edits. Shareware (conditionally free): free plan, paid Pro with a trial.
DentalMorph
DentalMorph is an early Russian-language web practicum: mark up the occlusal surface of molars 1.6 and 3.6 and compare with an expert reference. Small GitHub project (26 commits, no releases, no licence). For students and educators; not a 3D modelling tool.
Asiga Composer
Asiga Composer prepares builds for Asiga 3D printers. It identifies dental parts automatically, orients and supports them, and gives access to 600+ material profiles. Asiga provides it free to its printer customers on Windows, macOS and Linux.
NemoStudio
NemoStudio by Nemotec (Spain) is a 3D dental suite with modules for ceph tracing, ortho setups and aligners, implant planning, orthognathic surgery and smile design. Windows desktop, Cloud and Web versions. Commercial, sold per module, with a free demo on request.
Lychee Slicer
Lychee Slicer by Mango3D prepares models for resin and filament 3D printers on Windows, macOS and Linux. The free Lite edition covers the essentials with ads on export. Plus unlocks auto-supports, voxel hollowing and multi-plate tools.
Anycubic Photon Workshop
Anycubic Photon Workshop is Anycubic’s free slicer for its resin 3D printers. It adds automatic and hand-drawn supports, hollows models with drain holes and prints remotely to connected Anycubic printers. It runs on Windows 10 and macOS 11.3 or later.
Formlabs PreForm
PreForm is Formlabs’ free software for preparing prints on Formlabs SLA and SLS printers. It orients, supports and lays out parts automatically. The Dental Workspace adds indication presets and Scan to Model for turning intraoral scans into printable models.
Maestro 3D Ortho Studio
Maestro 3D Ortho Studio by AGE Solutions (Italy) segments dental scans, builds virtual setups with attachments and IPR, and exports aligner models as STL. Shareware (conditionally free): free Viewer and a free Pay-Per-Use licence with one demo case. Windows 11.
DentoSim XR
DentoSim XR is an experimental dental-procedure training app for Apple Vision Pro (visionOS), published as source code on GitHub. 18 commits, no releases and no licence; you build it yourself in Xcode. A prototype for developers and educators, not a finished simulator.
Simplant Viewer and Simplant Editor
Simplant Viewer (web, iPad/iPhone) and Simplant Editor 3.1 (Windows and Mac) are Dentsply Sirona’s free tools for reviewing, measuring, adjusting and approving implant plans from the Simplant Planning Service. They open Simplant cases only. The planning service and guides are paid.
CHITUBOX
CHITUBOX is a resin (SLA/DLP/LCD) 3D printing slicer by CBD-Tech. The free Basic tier covers supports, orientation, hollowing and slicing for most desktop resin printers. Advanced, Pro and the dental mode CHITUBOX Dental are paid.
DentiqGuide
DentiqGuide from 3D Industrial Imaging (Korea) plans dental implants from CBCT and intraoral scans, traces the nerve canal and designs surgical guides. Shareware (conditionally free): the free version works without a licence, export and print need the paid version. Windows 10/11.
3Shape Ortho Analyzer
3Shape Ortho Analyzer is the orthodontic model analysis module of 3Shape Ortho System, with Bolton, overjet/overbite, space and occlusion analyses for Windows. It is commercial software sold through resellers. There is no Lite edition, but 3Shape’s Ortho Viewer is free.
Aeskulap
Aeskulap is a free, open-source (GPL) DICOM viewer and PACS query/retrieve client for Linux. It is no longer developed: the last stable release is 0.2.1 (2006), and Debian 12 and Ubuntu 22.04 still package it. No official portable edition exists.
DicomWorks
DicomWorks is a free Windows DICOM viewer (freeware) for opening CDs and folders, anonymising studies and exporting images to JPEG, AVI or PowerPoint. Legacy software: the last build is 1.3.5b and there have been no updates since 2011.
3Shape Unite
3Shape Unite is the Windows platform that TRIOS intraoral scanners run on. It covers order forms, scanning, lab collaboration, the Unite Store and Unite Cloud. It comes free with a TRIOS scanner, while many apps are paid; Model Maker prepares scans for 3D printing.
HorliX
HorliX is a free macOS DICOM viewer derived from Horos and OsiriX, made by Hiroaki Inomata, MD (PHAZOR). It stores studies in a local database and offers 2D viewing, MPR and ROI measurement for CT and CBCT. Version 1.1.2 needs macOS 12.4 or later. It is Mac only.
ONIS 2.5 Free Edition
ONIS 2.5 Free Edition is a Windows DICOM viewer from DigitalCore with PACS query/retrieve, MPR, MIP 3D and measurement tools. Shareware (conditionally free): limited to 15 patients, one monitor and no extra plugins; paid editions remove the limits.
JDicom
JDicom is a free, closed-source suite of Java DICOM tools from TIANI Medgraph for sending, receiving, querying, printing, editing and validating DICOM data. It is a connectivity-testing toolkit, not a dental viewer. The last known version is 1.7.35 and it is no longer maintained.
