Simplant Viewer and Simplant Editor are Dentsply Sirona’s free tools for reviewing implant plans made through the Simplant Planning Service. They are for dentists and oral surgeons who order a planning proposal and a Simplant surgical guide and need to check, adjust and approve the plan. Most people who search for a “Simplant viewer download” need one of these tools, or the older free Simplant View desktop program.
Simplant Viewer runs in a web browser, including on iPhone and iPad. Simplant Editor is a free desktop program for Windows and Mac with more tools. It is downloaded from the mySimplant help page. Neither tool is a standalone CBCT viewer or a “demo” of Simplant Pro. They open cases prepared by Dentsply Sirona. The planning service and the surgical guides are paid.

What it does
- Shows the proposed implant plan on (CB)CT slice images (2D) and on 3D reconstructions.
- Gives an overview with a panoramic reconstruction and a list of implants and fixation screws. For each implant it shows the tooth number, manufacturer, product line, ID, diameter and length.
- Warns about collisions between implants, and between an implant and the nerve.
- Shows 3D views of the implants with transparent bone, along with the esthetics and the surgical guide design.
- In Simplant Editor, you can take measurements, for example of bone width and height.
- In Simplant Editor, you can change the proposed plan, for example switch an implant to another size from the same product line.
- You can approve the plan, which releases the surgical guide for manufacturing. Simplant Editor can also open archived plans for viewing only.
How dental teams use it
Order and review a guided-surgery plan
- Register on the mySimplant order site at orderdigitalsolutions.com.
- Enter the order details, choose the surgery and guide type, and upload the CBCT and scan data. Dentsply Sirona publishes CBCT export protocols and scan guidelines on the same site.
- Dentsply Sirona states that the planning proposal is ready within 3 working days after all case data is available. You receive an email when it is ready.
- Open the proposal in Simplant Viewer (browser or iPad) for a quick review, or in Simplant Editor for measurements and changes.
- Check every collision warning and check the implant positions on both the 3D view and the 2D slices, then approve. The guide ships 48 hours after approval.
Check a case with limited bone
- If implants are requested where bone volume is low, the CBCT images are posted to your account first.
- Measure bone width and height in Simplant Editor.
- Cancel the case (Dentsply Sirona says there is no case cost in this situation) or confirm that the case should go ahead as guided surgery.
Explain the plan to the patient
- Open the approved plan on an iPad in Simplant Viewer.
- Rotate the 3D view with transparent bone to show where the implants will go and how the guide fits.
Install and first run
- Simplant Viewer: nothing to install. The planning proposal opens in the browser from the link in your mySimplant account.
- Simplant Editor on Windows: install it from the mySimplant help page, or from the case viewer via “Have you installed Simplant Editor yet”. You need administrator rights. Accept the licence agreement and install it in the default “Simplant Editor” folder.
- Simplant Editor on Mac: use the macOS installer package from the same page.
- Requirements listed by Dentsply Sirona: 4 GB RAM, an OpenGL 3.1 graphics card with 512 MB or more (1 GB recommended), 2–4 GB of free disk space, an internet connection and a display of at least 1440×900.
Common problems: the published OS requirements date from the Windows 7/10 and macOS 10.10–10.13 era. Check with Simplant technical support before you rely on it on a new machine. If you cannot log in to Simplant Editor 3.1, Dentsply Sirona provides a small patch on the help page, and you need to restart the computer after installing it.
Limitations
- It only opens Simplant planning cases prepared by Dentsply Sirona. You cannot import your own CBCT DICOM files and plan from scratch.
- You can only swap an implant within the same product line. To change brand or line, you have to contact Simplant technical support.
- In the US it is a prescription device (sale by or on the order of a dentist or physician), intended for trained clinicians.
- Dentsply Sirona warns that the images are processed reconstructions. For a full radiological assessment, always refer to the original CT images.
- Full self-planning requires the commercial Simplant Pro. Its latest version is 18.5, according to Simplant service partners.
Simplant Viewer vs alternatives
The older Simplant View was a free desktop viewer for Simplant datasets. It could display images and take basic measurements, but it could not place implants or order guides. DentiqGuide is shareware (conditionally free) implant-planning software for Windows. To view your own CBCT files outside a planning service, use a general DICOM viewer such as ONIS Free Edition or HorliX on a Mac.
