3Shape Ortho Analyzer is the orthodontic analysis program in 3Shape Ortho System. Orthodontic labs and orthodontists use it to measure digital study models, run analyses such as Bolton, and document cases. People searching for “Ortho Analyzer” or “Ortho Analyzer download” usually need either the full program or a way to open cases that a lab has sent them.
There is no “Ortho Analyzer Lite” or free edition from 3Shape. Ortho Analyzer is commercial software licensed through 3Shape resellers. What it does
- Analyses digital study models from 3Shape lab scanners, TRIOS intraoral scans and, with the right licence, third-party scanners.
- Offers guided analyses: arch shape, overjet and overbite, Bolton ratios, occlusion and space analysis.
- Uses automatic tooth segmentation, which since release 2023.1 also works for analyses and questionnaires, so you no longer need to segment manually first.
- Imports DICOM data, so CBCT can be combined with surface scans for a 3D assessment.
- Produces reports, and the report types can be customised.
- Exports study models as STL through the Study Model Builder, for 3D printing or for sending to other systems.
- Stores cases in the Ortho System database and works with Ortho Planner, Appliance Designer and 3Shape Communicate Inbox in the full package.
How dental teams use it
Replace plaster study models
- Scan the patient with TRIOS, or scan the impression or plaster model on a 3Shape lab scanner.
- Open the model set in Ortho Analyzer and let auto-segmentation identify the teeth.
- Run the analyses you need, for example Bolton, overjet/overbite or space analysis.
- Save the report to the patient record. The digital model replaces physical storage.
Prepare printed models for aligners or retainers
- Finish the analysis and planning in the Ortho System workflow.
- Export study or planning models as STL. Each export uses the model exports included in your licence.
- Send the STL to the 3D printer or to the lab.
Share a case with a clinician who has no 3Shape software
- Export the study models as STL, or share the model set with a clinician who uses the free 3Shape Ortho Viewer.
- The clinician opens the models, rotates them and checks the occlusion without an Ortho System licence.
Install and first run
A 3Shape reseller installs Ortho Analyzer as part of Ortho System. The licence is tied to a dongle. 3Shape’s published requirements for Ortho System 2023 are:
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- 16 GB RAM minimum (32 GB recommended)
- An NVIDIA GeForce or Quadro graphics card with at least 2 GB (4 GB recommended)
- A 1920×1080 display
- An Intel Core i5 10th generation or newer
- 250 GB free disk space (1 TB recommended)
- An internet connection of at least 50 Mbit/s
Common problems: cloud-based automation in 2023.1 needs a stable connection. Some DICOM files are rejected with an “SOP class not supported” error. Model axis and positioning changes made in Ortho System may not all appear in Ortho Viewer.
Limitations
- There is no free or Lite edition. The “OrthoAnalyzer Lite” name does not match any 3Shape product.
- It runs on Windows only. There is no macOS version.
- STL exports are counted. Once they are used up, more are bought as CAD points.
- No newer Ortho System release than 2023.1 is listed, and 3Shape says Ortho System products are not sold in some regions.
- The analysis results support clinical decisions but do not replace them.
