This guide is for orthodontists, dental technicians and clinic IT staff who searched for an “Ortho Analyzer free download” and want to know what is actually available. The short answer: 3Shape Ortho Analyzer is commercial software with no free or trial edition, so the realistic options are a free viewer to open cases, a free study-model archive, or a different orthodontic package with a free viewer and a demo case. Not tested yet: the facts below come from 3Shape’s and the other developers’ own pages and from our verified program pages.
What Ortho Analyzer is, and what it is not
3Shape Ortho Analyzer is the model analysis module of 3Shape Ortho System for Windows. It measures digital study models and runs guided analyses such as Bolton ratios, overjet and overbite, arch shape, occlusion and space analysis. Since release 2023.1 (version 1.11.1.1, June 2023), automatic tooth segmentation also feeds the analyses, so you no longer segment manually first. That is the latest release 3Shape lists on its Ortho System update page.
Two things surprise people. First, there is no “Ortho Analyzer Lite”: we could not find any 3Shape product with that name. Second, 3Shape’s Ortho System page shows the notice “Ortho System products are no longer sold in your region” when viewed from some countries. If you are in one of them, ask a local 3Shape reseller what can still be licensed or supported.
The short list
| Option | Best for | Licence | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3Shape Ortho Analyzer | Labs and practices in the 3Shape ecosystem | Commercial; no public trial or Lite edition | Windows 10/11, 64-bit |
| 3Shape Ortho Viewer | Opening model sets someone else created | Free viewer, no analysis tools | Windows |
| Maestro 3D Ortho Studio | Aligner, bonding tray and appliance design | Shareware (conditionally free): free Viewer and a demo case | Windows 11, 64-bit |
| OrthoModel | Archiving and measuring study models | Free (closed source) | Desktop PC; systems not published |
If you only need to open a case
Many people who search for Ortho Analyzer just received a model set from a lab or a referring orthodontist. For that, you do not need the analysis module. 3Shape’s support documentation describes Ortho Viewer as a free standalone application for viewing model sets, distributed through the 3Shape Partner Portal, so ask the sender or your reseller for access. It lets you rotate the models and check the occlusion, but it has no measurement or report tools. Note that axis and positioning changes made in Ortho System may not all appear in the viewer.
If the sender can export plain STL files, any STL viewer will do; our free dental CAD viewers hub lists the options.
If you need to plan aligners or appliances
Maestro 3D Ortho Studio is the orthodontic module of Dental Studio Expert from AGE Solutions (Italy). It imports STL, PLY and OBJ scans, segments teeth with AI, builds virtual setups with attachments and IPR, and exports transition models as STL for printing. Further modules cover indirect bonding guides, bite splints and appliances. It is not free for production work. What the vendor gives away is a Viewer and a free Pay-Per-Use licence with one pre-loaded working case, which is the easiest way to judge the workflow before you buy anything.
Limits to know: it runs on Windows 11 only, wants an NVIDIA card and at least 16 GB RAM, and the vendor states that features labelled as AI are not intended for medical use, so segmentation must be checked by a professional. Its manual describes it as a Class IIa medical device under EU MDR; we found no FDA statement.
If you only need a digital study model archive
OrthoModel from Orthomodel Inc. (Istanbul) is the only fully free option here. It keeps a patient card with photos, X-rays and 3D models, shows six views on one screen and measures tooth widths and arch lengths. It is built around the developer’s own model-digitising service and is handed out to registered users; the registration form is in Turkish. The official site publishes no version number or system requirements and looks unmaintained, and the developer does not state which third-party 3D formats it opens. It does no virtual setups or aligner design. If you adopt it, keep your own backup of the archive.
The program name is also used by an unrelated Delcam/Autodesk product for foot orthoses, so check that the download page is Orthomodel Inc.’s.
Which one should you use
- You received a 3Shape case and want to look at it: ask for Ortho Viewer or an STL export.
- You need Bolton and overjet reports on 3Shape scans and your region still has a reseller: Ortho Analyzer, licensed through that reseller.
- You design aligners or bonding trays in-house: try Maestro 3D Ortho Studio with the demo case first.
- You want to retire plaster casts on a zero software budget: OrthoModel, with the limits above.
For more options, see our orthodontic software hub. Practice management systems such as Ortho2 Edge Cloud handle scheduling, contracts and billing, not model analysis, so they are not a substitute for any of the tools above.
FAQ
Is there a 3Shape Ortho Analyzer free download?
No. Ortho Analyzer is licensed commercially through 3Shape resellers, and “free” copies on third-party sites are not official. The free 3Shape tool is Ortho Viewer, which only views model sets.
Is there a free trial of 3Shape Ortho Analyzer?
We found no public trial. Demo systems are sold to resellers, so ask a reseller for a demonstration.
What is the best free orthodontic software?
It depends on the job. For viewing, a free viewer; for archiving and measuring study models, OrthoModel. For aligner design, no complete free package exists; Maestro 3D Ortho Studio offers a free viewer and one demo case.
Does Ortho Analyzer run on Mac?
No. 3Shape specifies Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
What is the latest Ortho Analyzer version?
Ortho System 2023.1 (1.11.1.1), from June 2023, is the latest release 3Shape lists.
Can I replace plaster study models with digital ones?
Yes: scan the patient or the impression, or use a digitising service, then keep the models in an archive tool with a backup. Analysis results support clinical decisions but do not replace them.
