OrthoModel is a free desktop program from the Turkish company Orthomodel Inc. that stores digital orthodontic study models together with patient photos, X-rays and treatment notes, and lets orthodontists measure and analyse those models on screen. It was built by Turkish dentists and engineers as the software half of a service: the clinic sends impressions or plaster casts, Orthomodel turns them into 3D digital models, and the models arrive over the Internet ready to open in the program.
If you searched for an OrthoModel download, read this page first. The developer calls the software free, but it is designed around its own model-digitising service, the official site has not been visibly updated for years, and there is no published version history or system requirements. Also note that the Delcam/Autodesk product with the same name is unrelated: it designs foot orthoses, not dental models.

What it does
- Keeps a patient and treatment card for each case, holding personal and contact details, digital photos, digital X-rays and the digital dental models in one place.
- Shows each 3D model in six views on one screen, so you can see the case from six angles at the chairside; any view can be rotated and zoomed with the mouse, and a double-click opens it full screen.
- Measures teeth on the upper or lower arch: linear and angular distances and arch lengths directly on the 3D model.
- Runs model analyses from those measurements and writes the results automatically to the patient card, where they are saved with the model.
- Lets you add notes on the 3D model itself and keep visit-by-visit notes on the treatment card.
- Stores clinical photographs in up to five named series (for example start, six months, finish) and can display photos and X-rays in different viewing modes.
- Places an intraoral photo next to the 3D model in the matching view (right, left, upper or lower occlusal) so you can compare the photo with the model.
- Records medical attributes for each model so the archive can later be grouped and searched.
How dental teams use it
Replacing the plaster model archive
- Register with the developer and install the free program on the practice PC.
- Send impressions or poured plaster models to Orthomodel for digitising.
- When the digital models arrive, open them in the patient card; the physical casts no longer need shelf space.
- Copy the archive to an external drive or network storage as part of your normal backup routine.
Measuring a case before treatment planning
- Open the patient’s upper and lower models in the measurement and analysis window.
- Take tooth-by-tooth and arch measurements on the 3D model.
- Let the program run its analyses; check the results on the patient card and add your notes.
Documenting progress
- Import the start, mid-treatment and final photo series into the photo archive.
- Use the comparison screen to show a photo next to the model from the same side.
- Use the six-view display at the chair to explain the case to the patient.
Install and first run
- Registration. The developer only gives the installer to registered users. The registration form is in Turkish and asks for your name, professional title, email, address and phone number.
- Operating system. Requirements are not published. Test the program on one practice PC before rolling it out to other workstations.
- Data. The program is built around models produced by the Orthomodel service. The developer does not state which third-party 3D file formats it opens, so if you already have STL files from an intraoral scanner, confirm compatibility with the developer before relying on it.
- Language and support. Most of the website and the support line are Turkish. The developer lists email and phone contacts on the official site.
- Backups. Once plaster casts are discarded, the digital archive is the only copy. Include the program’s data folder in your backup plan from day one.
Limitations
- No published version number, changelog, release date or system requirements.
- The official site appears unmaintained (its copyright line still reads 2007), so long-term updates and support are uncertain.
- It is an archive and measurement tool. It does not do virtual setups, aligner staging, bracket placement or appliance design.
- The workflow depends on the developer’s digitising service, which is aimed at the Turkish market.
- Closed source: if the program stops working on a future operating system, you cannot fix it yourself. Keep your models backed up and, where possible, in open formats.
OrthoModel vs alternatives
OrthoModel is the simplest of these tools: free, focused on archiving and measuring, and tied to its own scanning service. Maestro 3D Ortho Studio is a full orthodontic CAD package that opens STL, PLY and OBJ scans from third-party scanners and adds virtual setups and aligner design; it is shareware (conditionally free), with a free viewer and a free pay-per-use licence that includes a sample case. 3Shape OrthoAnalyzer is a commercial model analysis and setup program from a major scanner maker. If you only need to show scans to patients or colleagues, a free viewer such as 3Shape Communicate may be enough.

Is OrthoModel free?
Yes. The developer describes the OrthoModel program as free to install; its business is digitising impressions and plaster models. You need to register with the developer before you can get the installer.
Is this the same as Delcam or Autodesk OrthoModel?
No. Delcam OrthoModel, later part of Autodesk, is CAD software for designing custom foot orthoses and insoles. The dental OrthoModel on this page comes from Orthomodel Inc. in Istanbul and works with dental study models.
